Ender

French Urban Artist

Ender, born in 1973, is a French urban artist based in Paris. Having spent 25 years in the Belleville neighborhood, Ender immersed himself in the vibrant artistic scene of this iconic street art hub of the 1980s. This district, known for its diversity and energy, deeply influenced his style and works.

Career and Techniques

A professional actor for 20 years, Ender applies his theatrical experience to his urban art, creating scenes and characters that tell stories. As an urban artist, he mainly uses stencils and collages for his creations, a technique that allows his works to surprise passersby before quickly disappearing due to the elements or human intervention.

Ender explains that collages are essential because the stencils he uses, consisting of 3 to 6 layers, would be difficult to execute with spray paint on the streets of Paris, where this practice is illegal. Collages, ephemeral by nature, thus become an integral part of the art experience.

Themes and Works

Ender explores several recurring themes in his works:

  1. Mariolles : Children photographed by Ender sticking their tongues out at passersby, evoking a lost childhood innocence.
  2. Gargouilles and Chimères : Dreamy and melancholic creatures, often seen as demons but who, for Ender, have feelings and watch over the city.
  3. Reinterpretations of classical works : Ender pays tribute to artists like Caravaggio, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci by recreating famous historical scenes with a modern twist, such as “Perseus Holding the Head of Medusa” and “Artemis with the Golden Bow.”

Commitment and Exhibitions

Ender exhibits his works in various venues, including galleries like NUNC in Paris and the Sud Corse Hôtellerie site. His exhibitions showcase his skills on different mediums, ranging from canvas to wood and recycled materials. He also participates in charity sales, supporting organizations such as Emmaüs and Secours Populaire with his creations.

His art, decidedly ephemeral, evolves with time and urban conditions, reflecting the changing nature of city life. Ender sees his work as a form of dialogue with the public, an invitation to reflection and emotion, even if the piece lasts only a short while.
