Nasty

Nasty : An icon of Parisian graffiti

Nasty, born in 1975 in Paris, is a leading figure in French urban art. He began painting graffiti in 1988 at the age of 13 and quickly gained a reputation for his colorful and innovative work. Originally from the Paris suburbs, Nasty made his mark with murals in the Paris metro, turning urban infrastructure into true works of art (Wikipédia, l’encyclopédie libre).

Career and Techniques

From the very beginning, Nasty joined the AEC (Artistes en Cavale) collective in 1990, marking a major turning point in his artistic career. In 1992, he took part in his first exhibition in Paris, laying the foundation for his rise in the world of urban art. Renowned for his mastery of lettering and vibrant colors, he transformed metro tunnels and the banks of the Seine into open-air galleries.

Collaborations and Projects

Nasty has collaborated with numerous prestigious brands, such as Annick Goutal, Clarins, Azzaro, La Maison du Chocolat, Coca Cola, and Monoprix, for which he created a capsule collection in 2014. Alongside his commercial projects, he has also worked in the field of “art toys,” collaborating with companies such as Kidrobot and Toy2R in Hong Kong.

Exhibitions and Recognition

Nasty has exhibited his works in numerous galleries around the world, including in Paris, Zurich, Roubaix, and Hong Kong. His exhibitions, such as “Underground Fragments” and “Iconic Surfaces” at the Kolly Gallery in Zurich, demonstrate his commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional graffiti. In 2020, a free retrospective at Fluctuart, the floating urban art center in Paris, celebrated his 35-year career, highlighting his lasting influence in the world of street art.

Impact and Legacy

Nasty is often regarded as a pioneer of graffiti in France, with his work helping to legitimize this art form within the realm of contemporary art. His ability to transform urban objects into artistic traces of his presence has inspired many young artists and strengthened the recognition of graffiti as a true art form. He is a member of the 156 collective, alongside Lady K, JonOne, Psychoze, and others.
